Computer System Validation (CSV) ensures that GxP computerized systems are fit for purpose, consistently reliable, and capable of generating and protecting records that regulators trust. Scope. Applies to GxP-impacting systems that create, process, store, or transmit records used for product quality,

patient safety, or regulatory decisions: QC data systems, LIMS, MES/EBR, QMS/CAPA, serialization repositories (EPCIS), EM systems, warehouse temperature monitoring, QMS document control, complaint/AE systems, and bespoke tools (e.g., Excel/Access with macros) used in GxP processes.

Data integrity (ALCOA+). Records must be Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate—and also Complete, Consistent, Enduring, and Available. 2) End-to-End CSV Lifecycle (Step-by-Step)

  1. Classify the system and define impact.

    • Decide if the system is GxP-relevant (affects quality decisions or regulated records). Classify per a site model (e.g., infra-only, support, direct GxP). Identify record types and regulatory touchpoints.
    • Acceptance: Classification approved; GxP impact documented; record inventory listed.
    • Evidence: System classification form; data/record inventory; determination of Part 11/Annex 11 applicability.
  2. Capture user needs and compliance expectations (URS).

  11. Release and maintain validated state.

  13. Change management and revalidation.

    • Assess each change for impact on requirements/risks; update RTM; re-test impacted functions (risk-based). For vendor patches, use supplier release notes + targeted testing; for config changes, regression-test critical paths.
    • Acceptance: Evidence supports continued validated state; documents/training updated.
    • Evidence: Change records, risk/impact assessments, test evidence, training updates.
  14. Retirement and data retention.

    • Plan archival/export to readable, secure format with metadata intact; verify readability for retention period; decommission access; document destruction where lawful.
    • Acceptance: Records remain available and enduring; chain-of-custody documented.
    • Evidence: Retirement plan/report; archive verification; access removal logs.
